What is Affiliate Marketing?

August 17, 2008 · Filed Under Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the practice of selling other businesses products or services. In return for referring a customer to the business, the seller (merchant) pays or rewards the affiliate marketer, usually with a percentage of the sale.

Each affiliate program pays different commissions. Some affiliates, such as Amazon increase your pay the more you sell – making it a win win situation. A check, direct bank deposit, or payment by PayPal are the most common forms of payments.

Other common payouts include

• Commission
• Pay per lead
• Store credit
• and others

Online or internet marketing is a key element to a successful affiliate marketing campaign. Regular internet marketing efforts, such as organic search engine optimization (SEO), paid search engine marketing (PPC), email marketing, and other strategies are utilized in affiliate marketing.

Can I build wealth with my affiliate marketing efforts?

Yes you can! But don’t expect to have thousands over night. Executing successful affiliate marketing campaigns takes dedication, desire, and patience.

Multi-tier affiliate programs are excellent for building long term income. Some advertisers (merchants) offer a hierarchical referral network of sign-ups.

Example; You sign up as an affiliate for company x, during your marketing efforts visitor “A” visits company x’s website through your affiliate id or link. Visitor “A” signs up as an affiliate of company x, since “A” was referred through you; you’ll also receive commissions for “A” internet marketing efforts.

Multi-tier programs are a great way to build and auto pilot stream of income, though multi level marketing is still hounded with a bad image. I guess the money controllers don’t want us getting rich eh? =)
